Educational Technology - Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Overview
There are two ways to send a message to your users from your Blackboard course:
A. Through the Announcement feature
This will send a message to all course members.
B. Through the Send Message feature
This will allow you to target specific users or groups within your course.
Both the Announcement and Send Message features are one-way communication tools—you can send messages, but users cannot reply directly.
A. Sending an Announcement from your course:
Instructions
Go into your Blackboard course.
Go to Announcements tab from the top course menu.
Click Create Announcement or click the plus symbol on the top right corner.
Insert the Title of your announcement.
Insert the Message of your announcement.
Click Post.
Note the limitation on using Announcement is that you cannot target specific students or groups of students.
B. Sending a Message from your course:
Go into your Blackboard course.
Go to the Analytics tab at the top course menu
Then select Course Activity
You can select students individually or use the top selection to select all students
Finally, click Send Message
If you did not select anyone from the previous page, you can use the Recipients field to target your audience. (there are some pre-populated groups)
Please note the Send Message feature has limitations:
The Message is sent as an Email.
There is no Subject Line that you can use when sending messages.
There is no receipt to confirm that you sent a message.
