Overview
This describes how to transfer grades from NBME into Blackboard.
Entering Numerical Grades
Instructions
1. Go to the Gradebook in Blackboard.
2. Select Grades
3. Create a New Column by going in between two existing columns and click the purple + symbol, then select Add Item.
For Column Name enter the name of the quiz / test.
You can make the column Visible to Students
Note: Even if you make it available to students, they will not see the grade you input until you “post” their grade within the gradebook.
For Maximum Points enter in how much the quiz / test is worth in total.
Click Save
4. Select the Download Gradebook icon in the upper right corner.
5. In the new menu under “Record Details”, select the particular quiz you created.
6. Click Download.
7. You will get an Excel file (.XLS). Now, when opening the Excel file FROM NBME , make sure the data is sorted the same way that you see it in Blackboard. (You can sort by Last Name for example and make sure both files match up).
8. Copy all the numerical grades FROM NBME and paste INTO the .XLS file you downloaded from Blackboard.
9. Save your file.
10. Once saved, go back to the Gradebook.
11. Go to Grades
12. Click the Upload Gradebook icon this time.
13. Click Upload Local File and select the .XLS file you edited (or drag and drop the file into the dotted outline.)
14. Click Upload.
15. The next screen will let you know which columns you are about to update.
16. Click Upload again when you are ready.
Uploading PDF as Feedback
1. Go back to the Gradebook, select Gradable Items, and find the exam column you created.
2. Click the name of the exam column.
3. Select Add Feedback next to the students name.
4. This will open up the full grade details of the student. Inside of the Feedback for students box, select the + button.
5. Then select Attachment
6. Attach your PDF.
7. Then click Save
8. To easily move to the next student, on this same page, click the Next Student --> button.
9. This will take you to the next student where you can repeat steps 4-7.
