Overview
Student preview mode creates a ‘fake’ student account, called the preview user, inside your Blackboard course. With student preview, you view your course content from a student’s perspective. This can be useful to validate your course content and course behavior. You can return to your own view at any time.
Entering Student Preview
Instructions
Go into your Blackboard course.
At the top right corner, click Student Preview.
Then select Start Preview.
You will see the student preview bar at the top of the course page.
Exiting Student Preview
Click Exit on the top student preview bar.
Select either Discard or Save.
Selecting the Discard option will delete the student preview account and takes you back to your own view.
Selecting the Save option will keep your student preview account in the course. This means that your preview account and its data will still exist in the Roster indicated by _previewuser after your name.
Recommendation for Using Student Preview Mode
We recommend selecting Discard after using Student Preview mode to prevent confusion and keep your course environment clean.
However, you may choose Save if you need to troubleshoot or observe specific course behaviors. For example, you can enter Student Preview mode, submit an assignment, and then select Save when exiting. This will retain the data, allowing you to return to your instructor's view and verify how the submission appears in the Gradebook.
Once you are finished with your review, you can re-enter Student Preview and choose Discard to remove the test data.
